Book Review - 'The Grace of God' by Andy Stanley

"Grace. It's what I crave most when my guilt is exposed. The very thing I'm hesitant to extend when I'm confronted with the guilt of others..."  From his first line in the forward, Andy Stanley introduces us to this all-too-familiar tension between receiving grace and extending it.  In these opening paragraphs, he prepares us to come to grips with the true meaning of grace personified in Jesus and promises to tell the story of grace in its proper context - the context of relationship.

Reading through the chapters that follow, you will recognize Andy's easy and contemporary communication style that is so apparent in his speaking, also evidenced in the writing on the page.

He begins at the beginning, in the Old Testament.  And with the skill and precision of a master craftsman, he uses a needle of Biblical truth to pull the thread of grace through the fabric of God's story from Eden to the early Church.  The result is a wonderful tapestry of God's incredible and amazing grace.

This theologically sound explanation of grace is understandable and concise and, at times, directly addressed to those who have never experienced the amazing grace of God.  Had I not received God's free gift of grace in my own life many years ago, I would have readily done so while reading this book.

There are many great books out there on the subject of grace.  This one will rival the best of them and become a standard reference on the topic in the future.
